Hypnosis is a psychological phenomenon with its roots in the beginning of all talking therapies. It works by helping you get to a relaxed state. This will support your unconscious mind to process whatever thoughts and feelings come up, and help you make the changes that brought you to reaching out in the first place.
Hypnotherapy can be extremely beneficial as it allows for work with the unconscious mind. Many thoughts, feelings and behaviours aren’t always accessible to the concious part of our mind. Hypnotherapy can bridge that divide, and help you process the root cause of your struggle.

The feeling of hypnosis changes throughout the process and sometimes even throughout one session. As your body is able to relax into the hypnotic trance more, you might experience a sense of calm, stillness and clarity.
It could maybe best be described as an overall relaxed feeling in both mind and body.
The hypnotherapist uses a set of protocols to guide you into hypnotic trance. This can feel almost like a guided mediation. However, unlike with guided meditations, each protocol you will be guided through, is specifically designed for you and your experience. The protocols are created based on your intial therapeutic assessment.
This is why the initial talking component of hypnotherapy is so important.

How many sessions you need is very individual to the person. Sometimes individuals may only need one session. This is most common for a basic Stop Smoking session. But on average people benefit from attending several sessions. Most notice a more substantial shift in their overall wellbeing after three to six sessions.

Yes. Most people are able to reach a state of hypnotic trance with professional guidance.
How easily this state can be reached, may depend on different factors, such as trust in the practicioner, your body’s overall ability to relax - sometimes people who experience chronic stress or anxiety, may find that their body takes a little longer to feel safe enough to relax -, and your familiarity with the process. Reaching hypnotic trance often becomes easier with each session.
Many people find that entering a state of hypnosis feels easier as they build trust with their praciticioner, and start to associate their voice with safety, and a sense of calm and stillness.

Yes. Hypnosis is perfectly safe when carried out by trained and licensed professionals.
In some rare cases it can cause side effects such as anxiety, headaches, dizziness and drowsiness. These are usually minor and will disappear within a short period of time after a session. Hypnosis does not cause any long term side effects. Most people do not experience any side effects at all.
As with any therapeutic work, hypnotherapy can bring up memories, and feelings which may be challenging to experience. Engaging in therapeutic work is rewarding but not always easy. Practicing good self care is particularly important at this time.

Like most other forms of therapy, whether hypnosis works for you, is highly individual.
Hypnotherapy does not work for everyone and its effectiveness can be influenced by many different factors, and can even vary from session to session.
For those who find hypnotherapy is right for them, it is a gentle end effective form of treatment and can have a lasting positive impact.

No you cannot get stuck in Hypnosis.
The trance state which is induced by hypnosis can easily be stopped at any time by returning your awareness to the present moment. Hypnosis is perfectly safe, and you are the one in control at all times.
Often, people are actually surprised by how present they feel being in a hynoptic trance.
Hypnotic states are a safe and normal part of the spectrum of human awareness. Often, we fall into hypnotic states naturally, sometimes several times a day, such as when we are driving, cleaning or repeating other tasks, that allow our mind to relax.

No. Hypnosis will not make you lose control. During hypnotic trance, you are always fully in control.
You are able to control your body at all times, or make any decision which is right for you. That includes leaving an environment if you need to, or coming out of hypnotic trance by returning your awareness back to the present moment.

Hypnotherapy can be beneficial for both Mental Health and Physical Illnesses. For example, some studies suggest it may help reduce pain levels.
In my practice I focus on Mental Health & Addiction.
With now 15 years of experience in the Mental Health sector, supporting people of all walks of life with their mental health struggles and challenges, this is where my expertise and interest lies.
In my practice, I combine hypnotherapy with talking therapies to provide the most therapeutic benefit.
Instead of focusing on talking therapy only, working with the subconscious mind can bring the added benefit of accessing negative life scripts and intrinsic beliefs more directly.
This approach can be especially helpful to treat anxiety and depression, as well as negative self-talk and believes, maladaptive coping strategies and self-sabotage.
In my practice I also focus on supporting individuals who struggle with addictive behaviours.
If you want to know if hypnotherapy is right for you, I offer a 15-minute free phone consultation.

Self -Hypnosis is the process of inducing hypnosis by yourself by deliberately focusing your attention.
Self-Hypnosis can be induced by listening to a recording of a guided hypnosis.
Much like during life Hypnosis, the recording will guide you through the steps of relaxation and mindful attention. The outcome often is a feeling of inner calm and clarity which can help promote positive thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
Hypnosis audio files are a useful tool which can be given to individuals along with in person work to help aid and improve outcomes.
